Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine is a root-cause approach to health that focuses on why symptoms happen instead of just treating them. Rather than masking issues with quick fixes, it looks at how different systems in the body work together and what might be out of balance. Think of your body like a tree: Conventional medicine often treats the leaves (your symptoms). Functional medicine focuses on the roots (the underlying causes of illness).

    It considers factors like:
    ✅ Nutrition
    – Are you eating foods that fuel or drain your body?
Gut health – Is your digestion supporting your overall health?
Toxins & environment – Is your home or lifestyle exposing you to hidden stressors?
Stress & sleep – Are your hormones, sleep, and energy levels in sync?
Genetics & lifestyle – How does your unique body respond to different habits?

Functional medicine doesn’t replace conventional medicine—it complements it by addressing the lifestyle and environmental factors that contribute to long-term health. It’s about understanding your body as a whole, not just treating isolated symptoms. At Home Habit Health, I use functional medicine principles to help you create sustainable habits at home that naturally support your body’s core systems. Instead of overwhelming you with complicated health advice, I guide you in making practical, science-backed changes that fit into your everyday life.

  • Health coaching is like having a guide and accountability partner to help you make lasting changes to your health and lifestyle. It’s not about giving you a strict diet or a list of rules—it’s about helping you bridge the gap between what you know and what you don’t know yet and what you actually do in your daily life. Many people struggle with sticking to healthy habits, even when they know what’s good for them.

    A health coach helps by:
✅ Providing personalized strategies instead of one-size-fits-all advice
✅ Helping you set realistic goals and break them into achievable steps
✅ Identifying barriers that keep you stuck and finding solutions
✅ Offering accountability so you stay consistent and motivated
✅ Supporting you through lifestyle changes like nutrition, stress management, and habit-building

Unlike doctors or dietitians, health coaches don’t diagnose or prescribe medication. Instead, they focus on guiding and empowering you to make better choices that fit into your life. At Home Habit Health, my approach to coaching is centered around home-based wellness, environment optimization, and practical habit-building. I help clients create sustainable health routines by focusing on the small, daily actions that make the biggest difference over time. Whether you need guidance, structure, or accountability, health coaching provides personalized support to help you reach your goals in a way that feels natural and achievable.

  • Currently, health coaching is not covered by insurance, so I am unable to accept it as a form of payment. While insurance plans may cover certain medical services, health coaching is considered an out-of-pocket investment in your long-term well-being.

At Home Habit Health, we focus on providing personalized, high-quality support tailored to your unique needs. Our programs are designed to help you build sustainable health habits that create lasting change in your home and daily life. If you have an HSA or FSA, we encourage you to check with your provider, as some accounts may reimburse for health coaching services.

  • During your free 30-minute Connection Call, we’ll discuss your health goals, challenges, and priorities. Based on this, I’ll recommend the best session topics for your unique needs.

  • It’s completely normal to encounter challenges along the way. The key is to stay consistent and patient with yourself. If you find that you’re struggling, we’ll assess your routines and goals together to make adjustments and find a solution that works for you. My approach is flexible, and I offer ongoing support to help you get back on track without judgment.

  • No, you don’t need any special equipment to get started, you just need a little bit of discipline! When it comes to the strategies you’ll implement, we’ll work with what you already have in your home and make the most of your existing resources. However, based on your goals, I may recommend certain tools or products to enhance your experience. I am budget-conscious and always strive to accommodate individuals with financial constraints. My approach helps you cut through the noise when it comes to grocery store options, health products, and kitchen gadgets—ensuring your money is well spent. I also help you prioritize and focus on what truly matters, even when making bigger investments in your health, so you can make informed choices without unnecessary spending.

  • No, the services provided by Home Habit Health are not a form of medical treatment or advice for specific health conditions or diseases. While I have extensive knowledge of various health concerns, my approach focuses on preventative lifestyle medicine—helping you optimize your overall well-being by improving your environment, habits, and daily routines.

A key part of this process is understanding how the body works synergistically and what happens when certain systems become imbalanced. Many common symptoms—such as fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, and skin issues—stem from deeper dysfunctions in core bodily systems, including the adrenals, gut and liver. Rather than diagnosing or treating disease, my work centers on supporting these systems through strategic lifestyle changes and environmental optimizations, while integrating global health practices.

By learning how the body functions, you can make informed choices to support it in your daily life. My goal is to empower you with knowledge and practical strategies to build sustainable health habits, reduce your risk of illness, and enhance your quality of life.

  • While doctors specialize in diagnosing and treating medical conditions, lifestyle coaching, like what I do here at Home Habit Health, empowers you to take control of your health through practical, preventative measures. My approach focuses on building effective routines, optimizing your environment, and fostering long-term habits that support lasting well-being—rather than relying solely on testing, supplements, or prescriptions.

This hands-on approach complements medical care exceptionally well. While doctors excel at running advanced lab tests, identifying root causes, and prescribing protocols, they often lack the time and training in habit formation and lifestyle adjustments. These elements are crucial for long-term success, helping individuals not only accelerate their healing but also reduce the risk of recurring health issues.

If you're already working with your primary care provider or another healthcare professional and have insight into what's happening behind the scenes but feel lost on how to optimize your environment and daily routines to support your health, I am here to guide you.

  • My approach to nutrition centers on a whole-foods-based diet, emphasizing anti-inflammatory, nutrient-dense foods. I draw inspiration from Mediterranean, Paleo, Middle Eastern, and other globally nourishing cuisines. While I believe that high-quality, thoughtfully prepared meat can be a healing component of a balanced diet, I also respect and support those who choose to avoid meat for personal, religious, or ethical reasons.

I recognize the benefits of plant-based eating and incorporate a variety of plant-forward options in my coaching. While I support all dietary choices, my practice does not specialize in vegan-specific education. My goal is to help individuals develop a sustainable, balanced approach to nutrition that aligns with their unique needs and lifestyle.

  • No, I don’t create personalized meal plans because:

Outside My Scope – Meal plans fall under a registered dietitian’s expertise. My role as a health coach is to guide and educate, not prescribe diets.
They Create Dependency – Strict meal plans can be limiting. I help you build lasting, flexible habits instead.

    Need More Structure?

    I offer:
✔️ Meal planning templates & example frameworks
✔️ Batch cooking & meal prep strategies
    ✔️ A “build-your-own meal” formula for balance

    Have Dietary Restrictions?

I help you make informed choices, but for medical-based meal plans, I recommend a dietitian.

Want Someone to Tell You What to Eat?

Rather than prescribing meals, I help you:

    • Understand food’s role in your body

    • Create a sustainable meal planning system

    • Simplify grocery shopping & prep

If you need a strict meal plan, a dietitian is best. If you want structure and lasting habits, I’m here to help!

  • Testing and supplements can be valuable for addressing root causes and providing targeted support. However, at Home Habit Health, I focus on the lifestyle and environmental factors that contribute to health challenges, helping you build sustainable habits that support long-term wellness.

I provide general education on functional health testing and supplements but do not recommend specific tests or products. If you’re curious about testing, supplements, or finding a functional health provider, I can provide insights and resources to help you make informed decisions.

For personalized testing or specific supplement protocols, I recommend consulting with a healthcare provider or functional medicine practitioner to ensure they align with your unique needs.

  • Many aspects of health—such as toxins, nutrition, and stress—impact multiple systems in the body. Some themes will appear across different sessions but with unique applications. For example:

    • Toxins are covered in Toxin Take Down (detox focus), Functional Home Audit & Kitchen Confidence Kickstart

    • Nutrition is explored in Metabolic Reboot (blood sugar) and Gut Glow Up (microbiome support).

    • Your home environment plays a role in Functional Home Audit, Toxin Take Down, and Metabolic Reboot.

This repetition ensures a well-rounded, practical understanding, reinforcing key principles in different contexts to make them easier to apply.

  • No, this is optional but highly recommended! If you book the Functional Home Audit or Kitchen Confidence Kickstart sessions, I encourage you to submit photos of key areas in your home before our first session. This helps me assess your space in advance and provide more personalized, effective recommendations.

🔒 How Your Photos Are Handled:

    • All photos and personal information are strictly confidential and stored securely in Practice Better, a HIPAA-compliant platform.

    • If you prefer, you can describe your space verbally during the session instead.

By reviewing your space beforehand, I can offer tailored guidance to help you optimize your home, health, and habits.

  • I believe some of the most effective health habits are those that have stood the test of time—BUT, they must also be adaptable to modern life. Many traditional cultures have mastered longevity, nourishment, and balance through daily rituals, food traditions, and home environments that naturally support well-being. In addition to the functional medical approach to healing, I integrate global traditions to help my clients build sustainable, intuitive routines that fit seamlessly into their lifestyle.

This approach is not about rejecting modern science or blindly following tradition. Instead, I bridge the gap between traditional health wisdom and evidence-based strategies, taking what works and adapting it to today’s world. While many traditional habits originated in specific cultural contexts, the core principles—such as eating whole foods, prioritizing rest, and creating a home environment that supports health—can be customized to fit any lifestyle.

By blending global wisdom with practical, science-backed solutions, I guide clients in creating realistic, home-centered wellness habits that promote long-term health and vitality. My goal is not to prescribe rigid cultural models but to offer flexible, time-tested strategies that align with individual needs, goals, and modern realities.
